Built around a grandmother’s table<\/h1>\n\n\n

\n Hotel Rukia is named after Rukia Namusoke, whose Ggaba guesthouse fed travellers and\n neighbours from one long courtyard table for thirty years.\n <\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n

Since 2014<\/p>\n\n\n

From twelve rooms to the lakeshore<\/h2>\n\n\n

\n It began in 2014 when Nadia and Kato Namusoke, grandchildren of the original\n Rukia, rebuilt the family plot as a twelve-room guesthouse. The courtyard stayed\n exactly where it was \u2014 the table, the grapevine, the rule that no one eats alone.\n <\/p>\n\n\n

\n The rooms grew quietly, never in a hurry. Today there are forty-two, set between\n the courtyard and the lake. What hasn’t changed is a house that treats a\n one-night business stop with the same care as a wedding party of two hundred.\n <\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n

\n Vegetables from the Ggaba market, tilapia from the lake, coffee roasted ten\n kilometres away. The courtyard kitchen cooks around whatever is fresh that week.\n <\/p>\n\n<\/article>\n\n\n

On the shore of Lake Victoria<\/h2>\n\n\n

\n Ggaba is the water’s edge of Kampala \u2014 where the city’s chaos gives way to\n fishermen, mango trees and the widest horizon in the district. The hotel faces\n the lake; Entebbe Road sits fifteen minutes one way, downtown the other.\n <\/p>\n\n\n
