Hand-thrown pots from the hillside

We shape, glaze and fire small batches of stoneware in a sunlit workshop below São Jorge Castle. Tableware and vessels made slowly, to be used every day.

What we make

Three lines leave the studio, each one thrown on the wheel and finished with glazes we mix ourselves.

Everyday dinnerware

Plates, bowls and mugs in teal and sand glazes. Dishwasher-safe, oven-friendly and built for real meals.

Vases & vessels

One-off forms thrown on the wheel: bud vases, tall floor pieces and planters that carry the texture of the process.

Commissions & gifts

Custom sets for restaurants, guesthouses and weddings, wrapped in the studio and shipped across Europe.

Rows of handmade ceramic cups and bowls on wooden shelves
Every form starts as a lump of Portuguese stoneware clay.

A workshop, not a factory

Alfama Ceramic Studio is a two-person pottery on Calçada do Forte, a side street that smells of wet clay and espresso. Everything is thrown on the wheel, dried on the shelves you walk past and fired twice in a single electric kiln.

No two pieces are identical — that is the point. Small variations in glaze and form are how you know a pot was made by hand.
