About us

A calmer kind of dental practice

We opened in 2016 with a simple idea: no one should avoid the dentist because they don’t understand what’s happening in the chair.

Our story

Built for Kyoto’s international life

Sakura Dental Kyoto was founded in 2016 by Dr. Hana Sakamoto after a decade of practice in Tokyo and Vancouver. Again and again she met international residents who delayed care for years — not from fear of dentistry, but from fear of miscommunication.

So we built the opposite kind of clinic: one where every plan is explained in English or Japanese, prices are written down before treatment starts, and there is always time to ask one more question.

What guides us

Three principles, every visit

01 — Honesty first

We recommend only what we would choose for our own families. If watchful waiting is the wiser option, that’s the plan you’ll hear.

02 — Gentle by design

Slower numbing, lighter instruments and breaks whenever you need them. Nervous patients tell us it changes everything.

03 — Bilingual by default

Consultations, estimates and aftercare instructions are available in English and Japanese — every patient, every time.

Technology & safety

Modern tools, quietly used

We invest in equipment that makes care safer and more precise — and explain every tool before we use it.

  • Digital X-rays with up to 90% less radiation than film
  • Intraoral cameras — see exactly what we see, enlarged on screen
  • Hospital-grade sterilization, tracked and logged daily
  • Paperless records and reminders in English or Japanese

Rooted in Kyoto

Part of the neighbourhood since 2016

Our doors open onto a quiet street a few minutes from Karasuma Oike Station, between Nijō Castle and the city centre. Many of our patients have been with us since the first year — children who arrived in school uniforms now bring their own kids.

We’re proud to care for Kyoto’s families, its students, and the professionals and long-term residents who make this city home.

The best way to judge a dental practice is to sit down and talk. Consultations are unhurried and pressure-free.
